TRYON ANCESTORS

William Tryon was the son of William and Barbara Tryon and was born at Bilbury, England about 1645. William Tryon probably settled at Wethersfield, Ct., on the Connecticut River, before 1673, when he was taxed for lands that he had purchased from the Indians.

William Tryon married first about 1670 to Mary Steele who was born in 1652 as the first daughter of Samuel Steele. He married second, at Windsor, Ct., to Sarah Saint (Robinson) Lattimer. William Tryon died on 12 October 1711 and his inventory was taken on 7 January 1712. Sarah died on 7 December 1711.

William and Mary Tryon had five children, all born at Wethersfield. Joseph was born in 1671. David Tryon - our ancestor was born about 1673. Sarah was born about 1675. Thomas was born at Wethersfield about 1678. Abel was born about 1682.

David Tryon married, at Wethersfield, on 25 August 1698 to Hannah Wadhams, who was born at Wethersfield, Ct. on 25 October 1680 to John Wadhams and Hannah Bidwell. They lived at Middletown and at Glastonbury.

David Tryon and Hannah had at least nine children: Hannah and David were born at Wethersfield in 1699 and 1701. John was born at Glastonbury on 1 March 1703. Jonathan was born on 18 September 1705. Susannah was born on 15 April 1708. Joanna was born on 15 July 1710. Noah was born on 5 March 1713. Benjamin was born on 16 December 1715, then came Ezra Charles. Last came Hopestill Tryon who was born about 1725.

When Hopestill was born, her older brother, David was twenty-four; her father was fifty-two. David Tryon died at Wethersfield before 23 December 1730. Hopestill was only five years old when her father died.

Uncle Nick is not sure whether Hopestill was the daughter of David or son, David, who was born in 1701.  Judging from her name she probably was the elder David's child. . . or maybe Hopestill was born out of wedlock and father David and Hannah raised son David's daughter as their own. . . makes a better story!

Hopestill Tryon, born about 1725,  was the youngest of nine children. Hopestill Tryon was married on 2 September 1742 to Ebenezer Woodworth Jr. He was born, at Lebanon, on 26 September 1718 to Ebenezer Woodworth and Rebecca Smalley . They had nine children, including our ancestor - Lydia Woodworth. She was born in 1751, and married in 1773 to Increase Porter.
